Collie

The Collie dog breed originates from the mountainous regions of Scotland, but it is also bred in Northern England as well as the lowland areas of Scotland. People mainly use it as a herding dog. It is an intelligent and sensitive dog, known for its courage, boldness, and its incredible ability to anticipate the needs of its owner. These traits make it an excellent family companion.

Most people are familiar with, know, and have loved this dog through the television series “Lassie.” The character and behavior of the TV Collie is not far from reality. The Collie is an extremely intelligent dog and has the ability to sense when something is wrong. There are also real-life stories about this breed involving the rescue of humans and animals.

It belongs to medium-sized dog breeds. Training is fairly easy, as it tends to be obedient, loyal, protective of its family, and friendly with people outside the family. Its playful and adorable nature also makes it an excellent companion for children.

However, despite its friendly and well-meaning nature, a Collie is often suspicious and cautious with strangers, especially when they approach the family’s children, which makes it a very good watchdog. It may bark, but it is not aggressive.

This beautiful dog has two coat varieties: a long, full coat (known as the rough variety) and a short coat (known as the smooth variety). “Lassie” was a Rough Collie.

Today, the Collie breed is intended more as a family companion rather than a working farm dog. It adapts easily to a wide variety of homes and environments, provided it gets enough daily exercise. It enjoys being close to its people indoors, as well as playing and running with children.

Its herding instincts are very strong, and for this reason it is not unusual for a Collie to try to lead and protect children and other pets in the household, as well as chase cars or bark.

In addition to its herding ability, it also excels as a therapy dog and can perform well in dog sports such as obedience, agility, and herding trials.
